Lumii Design: Merging art and acoustic solutions
Share
Lumii, a British company specialising in sustainable acoustic solutions for architects and designers, approached MJH ArtStudio with a unique project.
Known for their innovative Miixfelt™ panels, crafted from recycled plastic bottles and available in 46 curated colours, Lumii sought to create a custom artwork that would double as a functional acoustic panel. This collaboration aimed to showcase the possibilities of Miixfelt™ panels as both sound-absorbing solutions and creative design features.
The Challenge:
Lumii's acoustic panels, made from a felt-like material, posed a specific challenge: finding a way to apply paint without compromising the panels’ acoustic properties. The goal was to create a piece that was visually striking while retaining the panel’s primary function as an acoustic solution. Testing different paint and application methods, we worked to ensure the artwork would meet both aesthetic and functional needs.
Our Approach:
To develop a solution, we conducted several tests, experimenting with various techniques to determine how to best apply paint while preserving Miixfelt’s sound-absorbing qualities. After multiple iterations, we finalised a design that adhered well without soaking into the material, achieving a balance between visual impact and acoustic performance. This design not only highlighted the versatility of Lumii’s Miixfelt™ panels but also underscored their commitment to sustainable, functional interior design.
The Result:
The finished artwork, crafted directly onto Lumii’s acoustic panel, became a focal point when displayed at Clerkenwell Design Week. The piece attracted attention for its dual functionality—serving as both a work of art and an effective acoustic solution. This innovative approach showcased how sustainable materials like Miixfelt™ can transform interior spaces, adding aesthetic value while maintaining essential sound-absorbing properties.
By collaborating with MJH ArtStudio for this bespoke project, Lumii demonstrated the potential of acoustic art panels in contemporary interior design. This piece reflects both companies’ dedication to sustainability and innovation, inspiring architects and designers to explore new possibilities in workspace and interior design solutions.

"Working with MJH ArtStudio to create art directly on our acoustic panels has given us a unique offering that truly sets us apart. This collaboration allows us to bring both aesthetic and acoustic functionality together in a way we’ve never been able to before.
It’s more than just an art piece—it’s an innovative solution we can proudly showcase to our clients. This will be a real point of differentiation for us, opening up new design possibilities that make our Miixfelt™ panels not only practical but visually inspiring as well."
