Capturing the essence of British engineering

Capturing the essence of British engineering

Springfield Training, an award-winning Yorkshire-based training provider with a global outlook, partnered with MJH ArtStudio to transform their workspace through bespoke corporate artwork.

Known for delivering a wide range of apprenticeships, community and adult learning, and commercial training throughout the UK, Springfield Training wanted a piece that would capture the essence of British engineering in a unique abstract style. Building on six prior pieces created by MJH ArtStudio, this project was designed to inspire their team and reflect the company’s commitment to education, innovation, and vocational training.

The Challenge:

Springfield Training’s CEO, Noel Johnson, had a clear but challenging vision: a one-of-a-kind, abstract artwork celebrating British engineering’s legacy and innovation, while incorporating themes from the prior six pieces MJH ArtStudio had created for them. The artwork needed to reflect Springfield Training’s brand values and convey the story of engineering’s milestones in a visually engaging way. This meant balancing aesthetics with narrative, using abstract art to resonate with Springfield’s mission to educate and inspire.

Our Approach:

At MJH ArtStudio, we began by diving into the history of British engineering, exploring key figures, achievements, and technological advancements. The goal was to create a bespoke abstract art piece that captured British engineering’s journey—from the Industrial Revolution to modern-day technology. Working closely with Noel, we used our structured seven-step art creation process to ensure Springfield Training was involved every step of the way. This process includes initial consultations, research, conceptualisation, and client reviews to ensure transparency and alignment.

We presented several design concepts, each exploring how different symbols and themes could represent British engineering’s progression. Through multiple revisions, Springfield Training was able to visualise the artwork’s evolution, providing feedback that helped shape the final design.

The Result:

The completed piece now serves as a powerful focal point in Springfield Training’s office, symbolising the history and future of British engineering. With each layer representing a different era—such as the early days of steam engines to present-day automotive technology—the artwork celebrates engineering’s contributions to society. Delivered with a certificate of authenticity, this custom artwork is now a source of pride and inspiration for the entire Springfield team.

By partnering with MJH ArtStudio for bespoke corporate art, Springfield Training not only invested in a visually impactful piece but also reinforced their dedication to education and innovation. Their new artwork embodies their mission to “change the world through educating one person at a time,” inspiring both employees and clients who visit their space.

Behind the scenes:
Here's how we created the piece.  And you can see all our Behind the scenes videos on our YouTube channel.

"Working with Mike from MJH ArtStudio Limited has been an exceptional experience. Mike's dedication and creative talent have transformed our offices and training space into an inspiring environment. We started with six smaller paintings that were fantastic, but the larger piece capturing the history of engineering truly blew us away.

Mike faced the challenge of turning my vague vision into a reality and he did so with incredible skill and patience. His ability to fuse historical engineering elements with his unique abstract style resulted in a piece that continually reveals new details and layers.

The engineering artwork has set a high standard, and we are excited for the next piece on healthcare. Mike's comprehensive process, from brainstorming to final delivery, ensured we were part of the journey and thrilled with the outcome at every stage. His knack for capturing the essence of our brand and industry through art is spot on.

I wholeheartedly recommend MJH ArtStudio to any business aiming to elevate their workspace with bespoke art. Mike's pieces are far more than mere decorations; they encapsulate our story and spark meaningful conversations among our team, learners and visitors."
